I’d always wondered what it would be like to fly.
Arms open wide. Flurries of cool air blowing my hair about like wispy tendrils around my face. The knowledge that, in that moment, I would be so far removed from everyone and everything else.
The birds would be my friends, the clouds my family.
Soundless. Wordless. Thoughtless.
Bliss.
Today I will fly.
I will leave everything behind. The worries of the world will cease to exist.
For once in my life, I will take matters into my own hands. I will climb to new heights. I will take a leap of faith, knowing that soon life will be all but a distant memory. I feel calm. I feel in control. I feel ready.
I know what it’s like to fly.
I know what it’s like to fall.
And soon, I will know what it’s like to feel nothing at all.
