Sometimes I feel like my mind, well, has a mind of its own. There’s no control, no focus, just a swirling vat of concepts, fear, love, anxiety, stress, excitement, guilt, intention – every feeling and every thought under the sun may as well have set up camp in my little old noggin.
I know I’m not the only one…
I find that it’s easier to separate my thoughts when I have some point of reference, something to keep my mind grounded. Where better to find that than from the minds of other people who understand the feeling?
So, I’ve compiled a list of a few of my ‘go to’ quotes that I’ve placed sporadically around my house so they easily catch my eye whenever I might be feeling a little frazzled. I hope they help you too.
Best quotes to calm a cluttered mind
“Focus is more important than genius.”
Thomas Szasz
“If you’re having a down day, have it. Let yourself feel the emotions – but don’t stay there.”
Molly Campbell
“Become comfortable with not knowing.”
Eckhart Tolle
“Wherever you are, be all there.”
Jim Elliot
“Open your mind, get up off the couch, move.”
Anthony Bourdain
“Worrying does not take away tomorrow’s troubles. It takes away today’s peace.”
Randy Armstrong
“All you can do is all you can do. But all you can do is enough.”
Art Williams
“Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Which of these quotes to calm a cluttered mind resonates with you most? For me it’s the Jim Elliot quote. He may have said it in reference to his devotion to his religion (not something I personally relate to), but I do find that those words help me return to focus when my mind strays from the task at hand.
Have a great day everyone. You’ve got this.
