The Final Empire: Mistborn Book 1 by Brandon Sanderson

Genre: Fantasy fiction

Thank you, thank you, thank you Brandon Sanderson! After years of trying to overcome a reading slump, you have brought my literature loving soul back to life.

The last book to have me so utterly engrossed in its pages was The Name of the Wind by the wonderfully talented Patrick Rothfuss. That was at least 3 or 4 years ago now. I was beginning to wonder whether another book would ever have the same effect on me.

The characters scattered throughout The Final Empire are ever-evolving and show true development as the story draws closer to reaching its climax.

The varied political and religious notions touched on throughout the depiction of the lives of characters such as The Lord Ruler, Kelsier, Elend Venture and the almost too lovable Sazed (sick name btw) are highly interesting and provide a depth to the world that wouldn’t have been possible to communicate otherwise.

As the book’s main protagonist, Vin is quite relatable. I didn’t grow up in a thieving crew on the streets of an impoverished nation struggling to survive, BUT I do understand her reluctance to trust, her social ineptitude and her need to run away and hide and be by herself every once in a while.

This book is a MUST READ for fantasy fiction lovers! I cannot stress enough how easy it is to get lost in the world Brandon Sanderson has created here.

I’m in the opening chapters of the second book in this amazing series and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

For everyone wondering whether they should invest in this book (and the series) JUST DO IT! You won’t feel a hint of remorse.

      1. I only read the other two in this trilogy I haven’t continued on with the second trilogy because I’m scared it won’t live up to the first one
